Every Coach Started Where You Are Now

The Origin of Weekend Coach

Most first‑time youth coaches don’t volunteer — they get voluntold. I was one of them. No one wanted to coach my son’s team, so my wife “helped” by signing me up. Overnight, my plan to cheer from the stands turned into running practices, building game plans, and trying to keep a crowd of parents satisfied.

I figured my college playing experience would make coaching kids easy. It didn’t. My drills were too advanced, practices fell apart, and no one was having fun — including me. I needed a better approach.

So I scrapped everything and rebuilt from the ground up. I created a system designed for kids at their level — simple, engaging, and focused on steady improvement. Winning was great (and yes, I love to win), but the real success was watching kids learn, grow, and enjoy the game.

The Turning Point

The next season, I used my new system from day one. I called it Weekend Coach, a nod to all the parents giving up their Saturdays to help.

The difference was immediate. We beat teams with equal or better talent — but more importantly, our players were excited to show up. That’s when I realized something big: coaches weren’t struggling because they didn’t care. They were struggling because they didn’t have a system.

Weekend Coach was built to change that.

My BELIEF (Youth Coaching the RIGHT WAY)

The best seasons aren’t defined by the scoreboard. They’re defined by kids improving, having fun, and walking away with memories that last.

To make that happen, you need clear plans, simple strategies, and the right perspective. Weekend Coach gives you the tools to coach with confidence, earn respect, and create a season worth remembering — for your players, their parents, and yes, for you too.

ABOUT COACH PT

I’m Coach PT, founder of Weekend Coach. Basketball has been my world for 30 years — playing in college, coaching kids at every level, and learning firsthand how easily a youth season can fall apart when the basics are overlooked.

My specialty is helping first‑time parent‑coaches succeed quickly. Not with flashy drills, but with the curated essentials that actually save time and keep a season on track. Over the years, I’ve built a system around the things most coaches overlook — preparation & organization, age‑appropriate drills, technical coaching skills, and ego management.

What I do is simple: I show you what matters, ignore what doesn’t, and give coaches a complete system so they don’t have to search anywhere else.

Weekend Coach is the system I built to make youth sports better. I wish I had when I first coached my kids — a premium, done‑for‑you system that gives you confidence from day one.
